Fourteen Gators Set to Compete in Tokyo

Track and Field events begin this week in Tokyo, and Florida will be represented by 14 current and past Gators.

TOKYO – A track and field program-record 14 Gators are set to compete at the Olympics over the next nine days, beginning Friday morning with Gators Great Lloydricia Cameron (Jamaica) in the women’s shot put qualifier and 12-time USTFCCCA All-American Taylor Manson (USA) in the 4×400-meter relays mixed.

Five of the Gators in Tokyo are returning Olympians, including two-time triple jump silver medalist and 2012 long jump bronze medalist Will Claye (USA).

Genevieve LaCaze (Australia), who will run the 3,000-meter steeplechase, will take part in her third Olympiad. Meanwhile, Eddie Lovett (Virgin Islands – 110mH), Marquis Dendy (USA – Long Jump) and Andres Arroyo (Puerto Rico – 800m) will compete at the games for a second time.

Gators standout and 2019 The Bowerman Winner Grant Holloway (USA – 110mH), Joseph Fahnbulleh (Liberia – 200m), Hakim Sani Brown (Japan – 200m), Doneisha Anderson (Bahamas – 4x400m Relays), Yanis David (France – Long Jump), Cory McGee (USA – 1,500m) and Marija Vucenovic (Serbia – Javelin), like Manson and Cameron, will make their Olympic debuts.

Florida’s track and field program boasts 23 all-time Olympic medals, including eight golds. UF track athletes collected six medals in 2016 in Rio, which is a program record for one Olympiad. 2016 was also the first time in program history Gators won multiple gold medals.
